Learn about ‘the dark side of fashion’ at UP Diliman exhibit

Even the clothes we’re getting form the sale rack don’t come cheap. Mother Earth is paying for the culture of fast-paced consumerism that leads to misuse of materials and resources.

Goethe-Institut Philippinen has partnered with the University of the Philippines College of Home Economics to look into the cost of today’s fashion in an exhibit called “The Dark Side of Fashion,” which highlights the ignored realities behind the booming clothing industry.

The exhibit offers digital installations and interactive displays with information about the harmful practices of big retail brands like damaging the environement with garbage a.k.a. last season’s trends.

There is a special area dedicated to sustainable development practices in fashion, with green alternatives from Noa Elizabeth Goren and Bojana Draca, alumna of ESMOD Berlin (International University of Art for Fashion) mixed with works by top UP fashion students.

“Fast Fashion: The Dark Side of Fashion” runs from Oct 11 to Nov 25 at Bulwagan Ng Dangal, University of the Philippines in Diliman, QC.
