She may be a successful R&B singer and songwriter, but Kyla comes from humble beginnings, and because of that, she is very conscious about saving for her future.
In a recent interview with Kris TV, Kyla opened up about the struggles of her family while growing up. She said she will do everything so they don’t go back to that state of living again.
“Takot ako na bumalik sa dating lifestyle. Naranasan ko rin maging mahirap,” she said.
Kyla, who used to reside in Bulacan, said going to school was a pain.
“Bago kami pumunta ng school, dadaan kami sa baha. Baon namin ang shoes namin. Dumaan kami sa time na yung bubong namin nandun sa kanto, kasi nilipad ng hangin tapos kailangan palitan ng yero,” she remembered.
She also revealed they rented a house when she studied in San Sebastian in Recto, but even that did not go according to plan.
“Yung house na nirent namin, Spanish time pa. Yung wall niya, pag umuulan, kumapampay siya. Yung floor, gumagalaw. Nakakatawa, ang hirap. Ayaw ko nang bumalik doon,” Kyla said.
Kyla admitted she had no idea how to handle finances when she was younger, so her parents kept her savings account for her. It was only when Kyla got married to basketball star Rich Alvarez in 2011 that her parents gave her that passbook.
Kyla then revealed Rich never makes her pay for anything, which then took some burden off budgeting for their home.
“He does not want to touch it at all. Sabi niya your money is yours, I don’t care about your money,” Kyla said about Rich.
Despite this, Kyla assured Kris TV viewers she will never forget about her past so she will always be smart about her money.
See, that’s how you live the good life.
