Whatever Kris Aquino is doing it for, the presumption is that she’s still happy as long as she gets your attention.

“Netizens have been hotly debating the statement shirts worn by host-actress Kris Aquino on two consecutive episodes of her program Aquino and Abunda Tonight early this week,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “Some people believe this is Aquino’s way of responding to criticism that she and her brother, President Noynoy Aquino, have been receiving in connection with the death of the 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) commandos in an operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.”

On Mon, Feb 2, Aquino wore a white shirt which carried the message: “How beautiful it is to stay silent when someone expects you to be enraged.”

On Tue, Feb 3, Aquino’s statement shirt declared: “I’ve learned more from pain than I could’ve ever learned from pleasure.”

In any case, Aquino’s “shirt talk” prompted a reaction from comedian Mae Paner, who goes by the moniker, “Juana Change.”

An Inquirer.net report revealed that at a gathering on Tue, Feb 3, outside Camp Crame to honor the 44 fallen PNP-SAF cops, activist and performer Paner lampooned Kris by wearing a shirt with the statement: “How beautiful it is to be enraged when someone expects you to be silent.”

A photo of Paner wearing her spoof shirt was posted on the Facebook page of Renato Reyes Jr.

The encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Jan 25 left 44 members of the elite Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) dead. The PNP-SAF troopers had been out to capture Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir alias “Marwan” and Filipino bomb maker Abdulbasit Usman. Both men had bounties on their heads placed by the U.S. government: US$5 million for Marwan and US$1 million for Usman.

The operation turned bloody when members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said they had to fight back because the PNP-SAF had breached their territory. They alleged that they had not been informed about the operation to get Marwan and Usman. The hostile encounter lasted 11 hours. The MILF lost 18 of their fighters.

Both the government and the MILF are doing currently probes on the Mamsapano encounter to determined what went wrong, as the incident threatens the Bangsamoro peace deal.
