Actress Kris Aquino joined the cast of the film Crazy Rich Asians at its Hollywood premiere today.
Aquino graced the occasion wearing a yellow gown made by Filipino designer Michael Leyva as reported by ABS-CBN News. Her son Bimby Yap accompanied her to the grand premiere wearing an old-fashioned barong.
Aquino is said to play the role of a princess in the movie. Even though she only had a brief appearance, she was welcomed by several enthusiastic fans who stood behind a steel barrier.
“This was the reason we made the effort to be here,” she started in the Instagram post she shared earlier today.
“[I]t is my honor to proudly represent the Philippines. Thank you for your effort to show your love and support!” she said in a mix of English and Filipino, adding the hashtag #KaySarapMagingPilipino (which translates to “How great is it to be a Filipino”).
Aquino also posted a video hours before the event trying on different gowns made by another Filipino designer, Francis Libiran, as well as other creations made by Leyva. She wore Diagold Jewelry for the event.
Aquino’s Australian co-actor Chris Pang said that she’s the real “crazy rich Asian.”
Pang, who plays Colin Khoo in the film, told fashion website Preview that he was “confused” because “she came with 18 assistants.”
“I was like, who is this person?” he said.
“Obviously, I know who she is now. She’s the real crazy rich Asian,” he said.
He added: “All of us were acting and trying to dig deep into this life that we didn’t know, but she was just playing herself.”
Crazy Rich Asians is slated to hit Philippine cinemas on Aug. 22.
