Iconic Pinoy rock band Eraserheads may have been inactive for many years, but their songs live on, thanks to other musicians who continue to play their music.
One of those artists is South Korean musician Sungha Jung, an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist popular on YouTube. Jung posted a now-viral video of himself playing the Eraserheads’ “Ang Huling El Bimbo” (“The Last El Bimbo) on his YouTube channel earlier this month and Filipino netizens are absolutely stoked.
Wearing a crisp white shirt and brown pants, Jung sits on a brown couch while performing the song. He didn’t say anything to introduce the song, but let his talent speak for itself.
At present, the video has attracted almost 345,000 views and 32,000 likes. A snippet of his YouTube video was shared on his Facebook page the next day where it has 31,000 views and has been shared 1,000 times.

“Ang Huling El Bimbo” is undeniably one of the most popular OPM (Original Pilipino Music) songs. It’s part of the Eraserheads’ 1995 album “Cutterpillow” and remains a favorite of many music fans to this day. It’s even the title of a musical play first staged last year which adapted many songs from the Eraserheads’ discography.
As expected, comments on Jung’s performance from Filipino fans were positive. A YouTube user using the name Cabron Aguilar wrote that he played the song “to the next level.”

Another netizen told Jung that he didn’t need a singer because his “guitar is already singing.”

Another fan commented on Jung’s Facebook page to encourage him to come back to Manila.
Jung performed in Manila and Cebu in February last year.

Marjorie Feliciano wrote: “Finally! Thank you Sungha Jung. Cover more OPM oppa, please!”

This is not the first time Jung performed an OPM cover. In December, he posted a video of himself playing the Up Dharma Down song “Tadhana,” which has received almost 423,000 views.
Jung first became a YouTube sensation when he was young, thanks to his impressive covers of various songs. This includes The Pirates of the Caribbean theme song, which was uploaded in 2008 when he was only 12 years old and has been viewed almost 59 million times. He has released several albums and now plays original music on his YouTube channel, where he has 5.6 million subscribers.
