Keeping up with the Sonoras: Grace Poe responds to Sheryl Cruz

This week, we were treated to the spectacle of the Sonora family.

The camp of Sen. Grace Poe quickly responded to the statements of her cousin, actress Sheryl Cruz, who says Poe is not fit for the Presidency in 2016.

“I thank Sheryl for her opinion and concern for us. As family, we will give her the love and respect she deserves,” Poe said in a statement, according to ABS-CBN News.

Sheryl, who failed to hold a tell-all on her cousin on Monday, spoke at the sidelines of the press conference for the Iglesia ni Cristo biopic, Felix Manalo. There, she insisted she and Grace are not sisters, responding to long-standing rumors that the senator is the biological child of Sheryl’s mom, Rosemarie Sonora and ousted dictator President Ferdinand Marcos.

Asked about her opinion on the issue, Grace’s mom, Susan Roces (aka Jesusa Sonora), only said: “I have nothing to say about that,” she told ABS-CBN while in a Kapamilya trade event.

While a squabble seems to be brewing among the Sonoras, the Poe side of the family seem to be more enthusiastic for their presidential bet. Lovi Poe, for her part, says she is putting her full support behind her sister.

“I will support her as someone who believes in her. Not as her sister, but from someone else’s point of view, I will support her,” she told pep.ph.

Lovi had said Grace can withstand the challenges of the upcoming elections because she’s “made of Poe material.”

And what does Grace’s running mate, Sen. Chiz Escudero, thinks of all this negative publicity of seemingly feuding cousins?

“Anumang personal na hindi pagkakaunawaan, huwag nang ihalo sa ingay at gulo ng pulitika. Hayaan nating pamilya ang magresolba niyan,” Chiz said.
