The Freddie Aguilar “cradle-snatching” saga has taken another bizarre turn: The Filipino music icon found a way to wed his 16-year-old beau.
“Aguilar and his 16-year-old fiancé Jovie Gatdula Albao are getting married under Muslim rites today” in Buluan, Maguindanao, reports Tempo.
Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu will officiate the wedding after Aguilar agreed to convert to Islam.
The wedding rites will start as soon as Aguilar completes his formal conversion to the Islamic faith.
Asked about the perception that the singer was converting out of convenience, Mangudadatu said he was leaving it up to God to judge Aguilar’s actions. The official maintained that he agreed to do the wedding out of humanitarian reasons.
