Julio Diaz on drugs list, comes out to clear his name

Finding one’s name on a barangay watchlist of drug users is a scary thing.

Mariano de leon Regaliza, more popularly known as veteran actor Julio Diaz said that he was asked to report to the local police station  after being included in the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council’s (BADAC) list of drug users in Meycauayan City, Bulacan province.

The ailing actor said that he met with police officials on Monday to clear his name.

Diaz, 57, told Supt. Lailene Amparo, Meycauayan police chief that he had been confined in a hospital since April for treatment for a brain aneurysm and hypertension. With the strict hospital care, would’ve prevented him from taking any kinds of drugs.

The actor received a letter asking him surrender two week ago. It was delivered to his home in Barangay Langka, Inquirer reports.

Amparo confirmed that Diaz was indeed included in the list but it may have been because of “outdated information.” He said that Diaz cannot be automatically removed as a drug user.

“People on that list need to prove they are not users or dealers. They would need to be monitored to prove they have not used illegal drugs. This must be done for the benefit of the public,” he said. “In the case of Diaz, however, we will give him a chance to prove otherwise. He has a right to clear his name.”
