‘On The Job 2’ release date set for Philippine independence day next year

Fans of the successful 2013 Philippine neo-noir crime thriller film On The Job are in for a treat because director Erik Matti has revealed in a recent interview with entertainment magazine Variety that its sequel is set to drop on June 12, 2019 (aka Philippine Independence Day).

According to the Variety article published on SundayOn The Job 2 will be followed by a five-part miniseries.

News about On The Job becoming a TV series erupted in 2016. It was originally planned as a six-episode series on online streaming service Hooq, but in March this year, it was reported that it would be replanned as a movie instead.

On The Job was Matti’s breakthrough film which starred Joel Torre, Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson, and Joey Marquez. Inspired by real-life events, the story focuses on inmates that are released from prison and hired as hitmen by powerful politicians.

It premiered in the country on Aug. 28, 2013.

Before its Philippine release, it was shown at the Directors’ Fortnight of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it got a standing ovation.

The film also bagged two major awards at the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in Bucheon, South Korea in 2013.

Matti is also behind other films such as BuyBust (now streaming on Netflix), Seklusyon (Seclusion), and Honor Thy Father.
