“This is not a fight that we can leave to the LGBT community because they are the affected party. This is a fight that involves all human beings.”
This was what writer Jessica Zafra wrote in her latest InterAksyon.com column in defense of the LGBT community, which has found itself the target of hate speech and censure from fans of Manny Pacquiao and self-professed Bible experts.

Several politicians have been asked to comment on Pacquiao’s hate speech.
Among them was Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who said, “I respect (Pacquiao’s) opinion. Freedom of expression is very important. I may disagree with what you said, but I will defend your right to say it.”
While Secillano said that Pacquiao should not condemn those seeking same-sex marriage, he also pointed out, “But this is really in the Bible. There is this quote he uses from the Bible and we cannot change that.”
Well, Zafra, who has friends in the LGBT community, is foregoing diplomacy in this fight.
In fact, her column entry is pretty straightforward. Its title is addressed to the bigots who seem to have come out of the woodwork with their holier-than-thou pronouncements: “Shut the fuck up, idiots.”
Zafra warned, “Yes, you have the right to free speech. That just makes you a loud idiot. You don’t fuck with my friends, asshole.”
She added, “As educated people, which I am assuming you are, you have the obligation to call out ignorance and stupidity when it hijacks the public conversation. Otherwise you are as ignorant and stupid as they are.”
