It’s safe to say that Vice Ganda is pretty funny. If you’ve seen an episode of her “Gandang Gabi Vice” talk show on ABS-CBN, you’ll agree. She may be funny in a rude and offensive kind of way most of the time but as long as you’re not the subject of her jokes, we guess that’s okay.
But the comedienne stooped so low “in the name of humor” during her very successful and well-attended “I-Vice Ganda Mo’Ko” concert held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last May 17, when she poked fun at Jessica Soho, the vice president for news programs of GMA 7.
She made fun of Jessica’s weight, performing a skit where she pretended to be Jessica checking her weight on a weighing scale.
She also said that it would be hard for Jessica to be part of a bold film because she’d need to be gang raped.
“Kailangan gang rape lagi. Sasabihin nung rapist, ‘Ipasok ang lechon.’ Sasabihin ni Jessica, ‘Asan ang apple?’”
Not everyone found the joke funny.
Gabriela Party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan, for example, said that rape shouldn’t be trivialized and used as a subject in jokes.
Netizens came to Jessica’s defese, as well, while others criticized Vice Ganda for her gang rape joke.
In an official statement, Jessica said that “Rape is not a joke and should never be material for a comedy concert. I thank all those who shared my hurt and expressed their support, but this should not be about me but about rape victims who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime.”
