Jaya on transfer to ABS-CBN: ‘Sometimes you have to grow up, break free, and fly’

It’s official now.

Jaya went to the ABS-CBN talk show Tonight with Boy Abunda on Wed, Jul 20 to confirm that, yes, she is officially with ABS-CBN.

The singer surprised viewers when she appeared on ABS-CBN’s variety show It’s Showtime on Sat, Jul 16.

The appearance signified that she left GMA, her home network for over 15 years.

READ: Jaya now an official Kapamilya?

“Right now, I am a Kapamilya. I would have to say ito po ay kagagawan ng Panginoong Diyos,” she said. “Parang nagkaroon ng 20 year period of change, pero parang naibalik lang ako kung saan din ako nakatungtong noon.”

(Right now, I am a Kapamilya. I would have to say this is the Lord’s doing. It’s like I had a 20 year period of change, but I just came back to where I’ve already been.)

Jaya, 45, was once a mainstay in ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show ASAP before moving to GMA in 2000.

The “Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig” singer added the network transfer was a decision she had to make for the sake of her livelihood.

“Hindi ko po ito ginagawa out of selfish reasons,” she said. I know that God brought me here and I have to abide by that.”

(I did not do this for selfish reasons)

She’s also thankful to GMA for giving the opportunity to grow as an artist.

But Jaya added: “Like any child, sometimes you have to grow up and you want to break free from something you’re so used to doing and fly.”

“And for me, flying now and doing this with ABS-CBN is something I know God has planned for me.”

Jaya currently is part of It’s Showtime as one of the judges of its “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment. The singer said she will also be seen in ASAP soon.

She is just one of the many singers from GMA who transferred to ABS-CBN since last year.

Recently, home-grown GMA singer Jonalyn Viray surprised fans when she moved to the Kapamilya network (and changed her screen name to Jona).
