Hot on the heels of the release of their new movie Ex with Benefits, Derek Ramsay is now forced to look back at his own love life and decide which of his ex-girlfriends had the most impact in his life.
“That’s the toughest question I’ve ever had in my career,” Derek in an interview in The Bottomline With Boy Abunda.
At first, he sheepishly said the most cliché answer: “They all had an impact. It takes a lot for me to get into a relationship. Every relationship I’ve had, I’ve had a lot of very great memories.”
But his Ex with Benefits co-star Coleen Garcia knew it was his way of evading the question, so she asked him (and Tito Boy) to repeat the question.
“Meron yan, e. Alam kong meron yan, e,” Coleen said.
And so Derek said: “It’s Solenn (Heussaff).”
“We were similar in so many ways, both half-Filipino, half-European. We both love to travel. The factors that ended our relationship… majority of it was long distance and timing,” he said.
“I think she brought out the best in me during the time that we were together and she was supportive of everything that I did,” he added.
“My niece is named after her so that says it all,” Derek also revealed.
Before you break out in a chorus of “aww’s”, Derek provided a glimpse of the ugly parts of the relationship in another interview on Gandang Gabi Vice.
“Mahal na mahal ko siya noon, but its not enough. May nangyayari sa relationship, tapos you bring the worst out of each other. It was too much turmoil, I had to get out,” he said.
“Nakipag-break ako, tapos, in the process I broke my heart too,” Derek said, to the confusion of everyone, including Vice Ganda.
But you know what they say: The truth is stranger than fiction.
