His apology wasn’t enough.
“Ramon Bautista has been declared as persona non grata in Davao City following the ‘hipon’ joke he made at the Kadayawan Festival on Saturday, August 16,” reports Chuck Smith on Philstar.com.
The report explained: “A resolution approved by the City Council said Bautista was declared persona non grata to make him understand that as a visitor he should be mindful of decency and propriety.”
Bautista had apologized after joking that Davao City has plenty of sexy-but-ugly women, using the local term “hipon” to describe them (sexy body but ugly face). He issued the apology right then and there at the the annual Kadayawan Festival.
Former Davao mayor Sara Duterte and vice mayor Paolo Duterte were present at the event and were offended by Bautista’s joke.
It was, in fact, the ex-mayor who encouraged the City Council to declare Bautista as officially not welcome in the city.
