Art Fair 2019 just concluded — we found it to be an immersive, relatively comprehensive look into the local art scene, but for those who have just started buying artwork, the event may have been a bit overwhelming because of its sheer size and scope, and by the high pricing for most of the pieces on display.
If that was the case for you, then you might be glad to know that Art in the Park is coming up soon. Think of it as a more down-to-earth art market where visitors can score affordable works.
It’s being held on March 17, Sunday from 10am to 10pm at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati City.
There will be 56 exhibitors this year, including galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups — and, organizers have stipulated that pieces that can only cost a maximum of PHP50,000 (US$958.96). Entrance is free.

Like Art Fair, attendees don’t necessarily have to buy anything to enjoy the artwork on display. There will be special exhibits from featured local artists Zean Cabangis, Yeo Kaa, and Leeroy New, plus local musicians performing live jazz and blues.
There will also be tents selling refreshments, plus grub from chef Justin Golangco of modern comfort food restaurants Bucky’s and SideChick.
Best of all — a portion of the fair’s proceeds will be donated to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines. This will support arts and culture projects and programs for the National Museum of the Philippines, as well as its network of partners.
