The cities of Iloilo, Mandaue, and Naga were named the most bike-friendly cities in the Philippines at the 2021 Mobility Awards.

Iloilo City, also known as the Philippines’ biking capital, won the Gold Award in the nationwide leg of the Mobility Awards, while Mandaue City and Naga City each received Silver Awards.

In a recorded message, Mayor Jerry Treñas said, “I believe that bike lanes contribute more space on the road and create the feeling of safety for many people who would like to bike. We look forward to having more safe, open spaces for the Ilonggos,” as he touted the city’s 11-kilometer bike lane network that connects the districts of Mandurriao, Jaro, Molo, the city proper, and the protected bike lane along Benigno Aquino Avenue.

This year’s Mobility Awards is the first edition to recognize bike-friendly cities outside Metro Manila. Last year, the cities of Pasig, San Juan, and Marikina were recognized as the best cities for cyclists in the National Capital Region.

The 2021 Mobility Awards was organized by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), The Climate Reality Project Philippines, MNL Moves, 350.org Pilipinas, and Pinay Bike Commuter Community.
