Finally. More than a week after news of his allegedly tumultuous nuptials broke, actor Matteo Guidicelli has confirmed that he and his long-time partner Sarah Geronimo are married, while denying reports that he punched his wife’s mom’s bodyguard after the wedding.

Guidicelli made the confirmation in a Facebook post today, explaining why the wedding was held privately and unexpectedly.

“We decided to keep everything as intimate as possible because of private matters,” Guidicelli said. “Each and every one of you have been part of our love journey and we want to say, Thank you. Friends, family and everyone on ‘social media’ have been a source of inspiration, strength, and most importantly, of LOVE.”

Guidicelli also denied that he punched Jerry Tamara, a bodyguard reportedly hired by Sarah’s mother, Divine Geronimo, to follow the singer wherever she goes. In an interview on the show Raffy Tulfo in Action on Tuesday, Tamara divulged that Divine arrived unexpectedly after the wedding and confronted the couple, accusing her daughter and Guidicelli of being “traitors” for getting married in secret. Tamara also threatened to sue the actor for allegedly punching him in the throat after he and Divine intruded on his wedding day.

“That evening was almost perfect until some unexpected events took place, but don’t worry I never ‘punched’ anyone,” Guidicelli said. “I will forever stand up and protect my wife just as how my father would protect my whole family.”

“I would like to say thank you to my family for loving Sarah like a daughter. Our family is growing and we are blessed. Papa and mama, thank you for deeply loving and welcoming Sarah into our family. In time, with God’s grace and Love, everything will heal and fall into place.”

Local media have reported that Divine and her husband, Delfin Geronimo, were against their daughter’s decision to marry Guidicelli. Tamara was allegedly hired by Divine and Delfin to monitor Sarah’s activities closely after their daughter and Guidicelli announced their engagement in November.

Divine has long been rumored to be a controlling mother to Sarah, who started working at 14 to provide for their family. Divine, according to reports, was also the reason behind her daughter’s breakup with actor Rayver Cruz, with whom the singer went on just two dates during their one-year relationship.
