After working as a domestic worker in Hong Kong for two decades, 61-year-old Teresita Alcanzare is finally coming home. Her youngest child Hanz personaly fetched her and surprised her with an epic retirement gift: a long vacation to several countries across Asia.
Hanz, who was only six years old when his mother left, shared the story of his family’s hardships on a Facebook post that has now gone viral. He said his mother used to borrow money from her employer just to make ends meet and shared that he used to be angry at his mom for leaving them.
The post has gone viral with more the 116,000 likes and nearly 25,000 shares.
Teresita was lucky enough to have an employer who treated her very well, whom she stayed with for 18 years.
“But, of course, there were times when she would long to be home, to take care of her own children. At that time, the only way to communicate to her children was through snail mail,” he was quoted in a story on ABS-CBN News.
Teresita’s hardships did not go to waste. She told ABS-CBN she was most proud that all her children had professional careers. Among her seven children are a certified public accountant, a licensed teacher, a registered nurse, a pharmacist and midwife, a civil engineer and registered master plumber, and a future IT professional.
All of her children chipped in to fund the trip, which will first take her to Singapore before she visits Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
“Today, your Graduation has come and finally you’ll be free from stress and work. [On] behalf of my siblings I am congratulating you! Job well done my mom,” wrote Hanz.
