Getting married is not on top of the list of every Filipina, a new survey showed.
Global marketing communications brand J. Walter Thompson (JWT) recently released the results of “Filipina Next,” which covered Pinays across socioeconomic classes and between the ages of 18 and 70.
It is an offshoot of the company’s “Female Tribes” study, which involved 4,300 participants from the United States, China, United Kingdom, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Russia, India, Australia and South Africa. It covered topics such as money, career, sex and religion, among others.
“It is astonishing to note that despite being believed that the Philippines is largely a macho society, our local study saw that 85% of Pinays believe that there has never been a better time to be a woman, while 96% find femininity as strength,” said Golda Roldan, managing director of JWT Philippines.
Fifty-eight percent of Filipinas said they would delay getting married or having kids to pursue their chosen career, and 68% considered “me” time as very important.
Here are other highlights of the survey:
* 94% of Filipinas see success as achieving a higher level of religious or spiritual awareness
* 85% of Filipinas believe technology empowers them, while 80% said it has given them a voice
* 48% of Filipinas see themselves as their worst enemy, while 35% feel they are held back by their insecurities
* Filipina women are least likely to experience sexism at work compared to their counterparts in Asia Pacific countries
* Filipinas are most likely to worry about money (81%) compared to other Asian women surveyed, and 59% spend more than what they earn
* 80% of Filipinas said they are the main household purchaser, while 73% said they make most of the financial decisions at home
* 63% of Filipinas consider sexual fulfillment as a lifelong concept, with 70% saying that it is not just for young people. Fifty percent said they expect to be sexually active even when they’re older
