GMA Network says it doesn’t know if San Miguel chairman Ramon Ang is still going to buy in.

“The ball is in his court. Since I’m no longer sure, it depends on the suitor whether they would like to court us or not. if I say that we are still close nobody will believe me so I won’t say it. So at this point, let me just say that our attitude is wait and see,” GMA chairman Felipe Gozon told reporters.

Gozon said they are open to entertaining other interested buyers.

In a text message, PLDT chairman Manny Pangilinan said his company may bid again. “At the right price and under the right conditions,” he said.

One thing going for him — GMA’s stock price — which was close to PHP10 early last year is now closer to PHP6.

One thing going against a deal, Pangilinan is struggling to improve PLDT’s sales and earnings.

PLDT has tried to buy GMA several times since early 2000, before and even after buying TV5 in 2010.

Ang emerged as a buyer after PLDT scrapped its latest attempt early last year. He was expected to buy at least a 30 percent stake in GMA in his personal capacity.

San Miguel, where he is chairman, would not be involved.

In a text message this morning, Ang said he is still buying into GMA. (ANC)
