With Chinese New Year just around the corner, there’s yet another reason to get into the festive spirit. And in case you’d like to mark the holiday as a celebration of new beginnings, here’s a CNY gift idea: a notebook with a cover made of repurposed old Chinese calendars.

1372 Designs, a maker of upcycled and handbound notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals, posted a photo of their notebooks and journals featuring upcycled calendars on the cover, mostly in red and green.

Known for their vintage-inspired and even quirky covers, 1372 Designs has long created journal covers out of upcycled materials, breathing new life into them. Their family-run craft business started in Singapore as they frequently joined weekend arts and crafts markets.

“What started out as a hobby to relieve stress after long days at work or school turned into a serious business venture for our family,” their Etsy page read.

“When we moved back to Manila, we frequented flea markets or art fairs around the metro. Then, we opened our physical store at Escolta back in 2016, with the HUB:Make Lab. It is inside a historical building called First United Building (formerly Perez-Samanillo Building).”

You can message 1372 Designs on their Facebook page.
