With its endless family drama and episode cliffhangers, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that prestige HBO show Game of Thrones is basically a soap opera with dragons. But event producer Calvin Callangan took this up a notch and thought it would be fun to re-edit the show to look like a Filipino teleserye (soap opera).

The video posted on Facebook on Monday is the scene where Jaime Lannister finds out that her sister (and lover) Cersei Lannister lied about helping Jon Snow and Danaerys Targaryen fight the army of the dead.
The title, of course, was changed to Laro ng Trono (literally, Game of Thrones in Filipino) but Callangan’s video really comes together in the minor details he incorporated into the clip.
“[I] watched a few clips of old and new Pinoy teleseryes and just played around with the elements I noticed from those videos. It was actually a really fun experience editing this, I had a few cringe laughs while working on it,” Callangan told Coconuts.
Callangan took the clip and edited it the same way many teleseryes are. “[The show] Ang Probinsyano was on while we were eating, during intense scenes, I noticed these weird zoom-ins into the subject’s faces when they had something to say or when they glared furiously or worriedly into who they were talking to,” he said.
He also changed the clip’s aspect ratio from a 16:9 widescreen to a standard 4:3 that is more commonly used in the Philippines.
Other elements he added to give the video a distinctly Pinoy flavor are the MTRCB rating found on the bottom right (Strong Parental Guidance, of course) and a company logo where the TV network logo usually is. Callangan also threw in some fuzzy video noise for good measure.
The video ends with a montage of Jaime and Cersei’s scenes from past seasons with the Gary Valenciano ballad I’ll Never Love This Way Again playing in the background.
The video has received more than 500,000 views, more than 16,000 reactions, close to 9,000 shares, and more than 5,000 comments as of this posting but Callangan still can’t believe how much people liked it.
“I would’ve never guessed that a product of my mischievous mind would be appreciated, laughed at and shared like this. For a few days now 90% of my [Facebook] notifications are from the video,” he said.
And this video won’t be the last. Callangan said he already has other scenes he wants to edit, and not just from Game of Thrones.
At least we’ll have more laughs to help us get through the next year and a half without Game of Thrones?
