So soon after last month’s release of Mikhail Red’s Eerie, Filipinos are getting yet another taste of horror through the upcoming film Maledicto, Fox Networks Group Philippines’ first ever film.

The film, helmed by award-winning Filipino director Mark Meily, is set to premiere in local cinemas on May 1.

Maldecito tells the story of priest Father Xavi (Tom Rodriguez), a former psychologist who gets into exorcism after the tragic death of his sister (Inah de Belen).

He is joined by Sister Barbie (Jasmin Curtis-Smith), a nun with the spiritual gift of clairvoyance, which allows her to see things that can’t be perceived by normal human senses. They both work on the case of Agnes (Miles Ocampo), a seemingly normal teenager who starts manifesting demonic behavior.

The story is based on a screenplay penned by Palanca-winning writer Jonathan Guillermo. Fox producers reportedly picked it after going through numerous scripts and story pitches, according to a statement sent to media.

The film will also star Eric Quizon, Martin Escudero, Franco Laurel, Nonie Buencamino, Liza Lorena, and Menggie Cobarrubias.

It is co-produced by Cignal Entertainment and Unitel and is distributed by Star Cinema.

Veteran film director Meily has also directed other horror, drama, and dark comedy movies such as Ang ElementoKinatay, and Crying Ladies.
