Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago seems to have learned this the hard way after she disclosed on Saturday that she’s now suffering from chronic kidney disease. According to Santiago, pre-workout drinks and her intense exercise regime contributed to her ailment.
The former beauty queen posted a series of Instagram stories updating her followers of the state of her health.
Santiago confirmed that she’s sick.”My kidneys are more sensitive than a normal late 20s woman. I cant (sic) overdo things and I just found out. Came to the hospital for my severe migraines and we found something potentially more dangerous.”
“Im (sic) thankful but at the same time really scared,” she added.
She added: “Guys, if you take pre-workout [drinks] and et al plus heavy workout be careful! Apparently there are many more like me! We damaged our kidneys because of our gym life!”
Before changing one’s diet, Santiago advised her followers to make sure that they “don’t have bad health history problems” and to check with their doctors first.
Santiago also posted a photo of a paper from the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City labeled: “Diet for Chronic Kidney Disease.”
Beauty pageants are a big deal in the Philippines. In the country, winning a major international title could open many doors, which is why a lot of women train for years to get a real shot at the crown.
They also follow a diet and fitness regimen to ensure that they remain in fighting form. Santiago’s case is probably one example of what could happen if taken to the extremes.
