John Regala, a former actor known for playing villainous characters in action movies, confirmed yesterday that he sought help from a delivery man after he suffered from dizziness caused by long-standing ailments.

The delivery guy, named Carlo Marti Clariza, shared photos of the apparently ill John in an online post, showing the actor sitting on a streetside bench with a facemask on. Clariza wrote that John asked for his assistance because the latter was dizzy and couldn’t find his nurse.

“I immediately asked watchmen and the police to help him. He is in the village of 183 in Pasay City….It’s just painful to see that one of the [movie] villains I used to admire is in that condition,” Clariza said.

In an interview with news program 24 Oras, John admitted that he was the man in the viral post, which has been shared almost 1,700 times as of today. He said that he was still grieving from the death of his mother, actress Ruby Regala, who passed away last year. He’s also in the midst of having domestic issues with his partner.

“After she died, I had problems with my wife. An ordinary person would not be able to handle all the problems I’m facing now,” he said in Filipino.

In a separate interview with radio station DZRH yesterday, John said he was suffering from liver cirrhosis, among many other illnesses. He added that he doesn’t have any family to rely on since the death of his mother and that all of his relatives have abandoned him.

“My liver cirrhosis is getting worse, but I don’t drink alcohol ever since. I don’t know, maybe I got it from fatty foods. Aside from that, there’s liquid inside my stomach; it has to be opened up to release it. And my throat has varicose veins. When it erupts, I vomit blood,” he said.

Regala’s last television appearance was on the series Ang Probinsyano (“The Man from the Province”) in 2016. He is currently staying at a shelter run by his church, the Iglesia ni Kristo.
