It’s the city’s way of showing support for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community.

“Officials of Mandaue City, Cebu recently paid tribute to the LGBT community with a rainbow pedestrian lane in Barangay Subangdako,” reports GMA News Online.

The rainbow pedestrian lane is said to be “the first of its kind in Asia.”

City officials, led by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, participated in the painting of the rainbow pedestrian lane last week.

Meanwhile, Barangay Subangdaku captain Ernie Manatad explained that the road is “symbolic,” so the government will be “more conscious about the gender issues.”
