Filipino singer Gary Valenciano announces he’s cancer-free

Veteran Filipino singer and actor Gary Valenciano (aka Gary V.) is now cancer-free.

He announced this through a video posted on his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts yesterday.

On top of battling cancer, Valenciano has long been known for being a Type 1 diabetic, which causes fatigue and blurred vision.

“Just needed to share this with you all. God bless you in ways that will simply make you see just how good He really is,” reads his caption for the posts.

Valenciano said that he was diagnosed with cancer in May last year, around the time when he was recovering from a heart bypass surgery. He underwent another surgery in June to remove a cancerous growth from his kidney.

“There is deep deep gratitude in my heart; for my family, the doctors, my relatives, my closest of friends, the various churches and the fans,” text graphics on the video say.

“Those prayers have once again been answered because today after seeing the results of my annual checkup, I am free of cancer.”

Valenciano’s fans were happy with the news.

“Happy for you. Be safe always,” wrote Loryden Sabornido.

Valenciano is one of the Philippines’ most successful entertainers, with a string of hit songs under his belt such as Hataw Na, Di Bale Na Lang, Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos, and Shout for Joy.

He was initially perceived as a Filipino Michael Jackson due to his dance skills but has managed to create his own persona. A born-again Christian, he also found success writing and singing Christian music.

Valenciano is currently one of the hosts of the long-running variety show ASAP.
