We are mighty proud!
Some of Coconuts Manila’s favorite photographers — Jose Enrique Soriano, Veejay Villafranca, Jes Aznar, Jake Verzosa, and Carlo Gabuco — are headlining an exhibit at the ongoing Bangkok International Photo Festival aka PhotoBangkok.
No better way to showcase our deep sense of faith and religion than in a documentary exhibit called ‘Pananampalataya’. Here, the photographers will be exhibiting some old photographs, some new ones, but all showcasing the Filipino’s unique way of incorporating religion in our every day: peppering every facet of life with spiritual significance and treating every experience as sacred.

Think about it: When you juxtapose our strong sense of Hispanic and Christianized influence with the rest of the Southeast Asian region, don’t we stick like a sore thumb? Or a better way of looking at it: aren’t we the unique snowflake?
We mean, some of our strange Holy Week activities, as Soriano’s images will showcase. Or even, faith healing and other folk rituals, as Veejay’s pictures will show.
The exhibit, produced by Asian Eye Gallery, will open on Aug 1 at Cho Why in Bangkok. There will also be an artist talk on Aug 2, and a pop-up shop of Imprenta Manila.
8pm, Aug 1. 6:30pm, Aug 2. Cho Why, 17 Soi Nana, Charoen Krung Road, Bangkok
