The 2015 sleeper hit Heneral Luna (General Luna) very quickly became a part of Philippine pop culture and starting tomorrow, it will finally be available for streaming nationwide through — you guessed it — Netflix.
The official Facebook page of TBA Studios, the studio behind the film, made the announcement in a now-deleted Facebook post yesterday which said that the film will appear on Netflix starting today, Oct. 31. However, other reports have mentioned that Netflix corrected TBA Studios’ initial announcement in a statement and said that it will start streaming tomorrow, Nov. 1 instead.
Heneral Luna tells the story of hot-headed General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla) who fights for freedom during the Philippine-American War in 1898. Based on history, the film discusses themes like patriotism and the various effects of colonialism.
It became the highest grossing historical film in the Philippines after raking over PHP256million (US$4.78million) in the box office. It instantly became a classic and is now often quoted and ‘meme-d’ on the internet.
The film’s second installment, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (Goyo: The Boy General) was one of the most anticipated movies of this year.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said that the film will start streaming on Oct. 31 as announced by TBA Studios. It subsequently emerged that Netflix corrected the film producers’ now-deleted announcement. The film will appear on the online streaming giant Nov. 1.
