In the Philippines, the lines between show business and government are blurry, given the number of celebrities who eventually go into politics.
But actor and comedian Bayani Agbayani said he was not going to be one of them. At least not yet.
He said in a PEP.ph report last week that he declined an appointment to the Movies Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) last year because he knows he would not be able to do it well.
“Ever since, with God’s mercy, I’ve always been very busy with work. When I was appointed to the MTRCB board, I was already overloaded with other work,” Agbayani said in Filipino.
For Agbayani, it is important to be dedicated to one’s job, especially when he or she is paid using people’s taxes.
“I don’t want to take a job that I know I can’t handle. It’s like we’re fooling people who pay their taxes,” he said.
Last year, Agbayani said he plans to study Public Administration at the University of the Philippines.
