“Promposals” are a big trend among high-schoolers today. For the uninitiated, these are elaborate (sometimes over the top) ways of proposing to a prom date. The Star Magic Ball this Saturday is basically the annual prom for Filipino celebrities so it’s no surprise that some of them got creative with their proposals.
Take actor Joshua Garcia as an example. On Saturday, he commissioned a choir to serenade actress Julia Barretto with Ed Sheeran’s Perfect while the singers held cards that spelled out “Will U Be My Date?” Garcia then showed up from behind Barretto and gave her a bouquet of red roses.
Actor Elmo Magalona also serenaded actress Janella Salvador earlier this month but sang to her himself. He sang Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight on the set of their upcoming movie My Fairy Tail Love Story and wrote her a poem.

Actor Iñigo Pascual went for something a little more public. He asked out actress Maris Racal during the Sunday variety show ASAP last week. They were in the middle of a skit when Pascual said that he wished to bring Racal to the Star Magic Ball, to which the actress replied: “Why not?”
Pascual had already proposed to Racal in August through a series of 100 tweets that ended with: “Would you please go to the ball with me?”

Ex-Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemates Marco Gallo and Kisses Delavin also had two televised proposals. Gallo first asked Delavin out during an interview on Tonight With Boy Abunda in a pretty straightforward manner but he brought out the big guns — or bear — when he asked her out again with a huge stuffed bear during last week’s ASAP episode.
Edward Barber who is also a former PBB housemate also proposed on TV. He went as far as going down on one knee to ask out fellow-housemate Maymay Entrata while holding charm for a bracelet during the morning talk show Magandang Buhay.
“You said you want to remember the moment, so I got you a charm that you can put on your bracelet — a camera,” Barber said.

The latest in the string of proposals is that of ex-PBB housemates Bailey May and Ylona Garcia. Instagram photos posted by the two yesterday show May carrying a bouget of red roses with an ice cream cone in the center. He is also seen holding a board that reads: “You’re super sweet just like your all time favorite treat. Ball with me?” “Who could say no to this?” Garcia said in her caption.

Star Magic is the training and management subsidiary of ABS-CBN. This year’s Star Magic Ball will celebrate the agency’s 25th anniversary and will be held this Saturday at Makati Shangri-la Hotel’s Rizal Ballroom.
