Filipino actor Zanjoe Marudo is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in this year’s International Emmy Award. The nominees, which come from 18 different countries, were announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences yesterday.

The best actor nod is for Marudo’s performance in an episode of the ABS-CBN anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya (Remembering). In the episode titled Kweba (Cave), he played a father who raised his children inside a cave after the family lost their home after a storm.

Maalaala Mo Kaya‘s episodes are based on real-life stories; the show has been running for more than 25 years.

Also nominated for the Best Performance by an Actor category are Brazil’s Julio Andrade in Um Contra Todos (One Against All), France’s Kad Merad in Baron Noir, and Oscar-nominated British actor Kenneth Branagh in Wallander.

ABS-CBN’s flagship night news show TV Patrol is also nominated for this year’s News & Documentary Emmy Awards for their coverage of typhoon Lawin.
