This Pinay makes us so proud we almost have no words for it.
“Manila-born model Geena Rocero, who moved to New York in 2005, came out as transgender during a TED talk,” reports Parker Marie Molloy on Advocate.com.
Rocero talks about the obstacles she faced in coming to terms with her identity. She also revealed that she understood she was fortunate that her mom and dad also supported her no matter what.
Rocero went on to announce the launch of Gender Proud. According to the report, “the campaign is designed to bring awareness to the fact that only a fraction of the world’s countries allow transgender individuals to update their gender markers without first having to undergo forced sterilization or other forms of genital surgery.”
The report added that “Rocero plans to take her story on the road, bankrolling a speaking tour through crowdfunding website IndieGogo, and launching a Change.org petition in the name of transgender recognition.”
