Fashion hot tip: Don’t wash your jeans

And that came straight from Levi’s Strauss CEO Chip Bergh himself. In a story published on Fortune last May 20, the CEO proudly shares that Levi’s is a pioneer on sustainable apparel, which is quite unique and very commendable, given they are of an industry that thrives on trends and seasonal changes.

A pair of jeans “will last longer than most people’s waistlines,” he was quoted as saying at the Brainstorm Green conference.

Apart from reducing demand, he also mentioned Levi’s “waterless” line of products, which is another way to reduce water consumption—with Angat Dam reaching critical points, lord knows we can make use of this, right?

But the best part about the whole article: You can stop washing your jeans—or you can at least continue your habit of not always washing them. Bergh reveals that the pair he was wearing at the conference has not seen the washing machine in the year that he’s own them. “I have yet to get skin diseas,” he says.

A simple google search led us to FHM.com.ph where in an article called “Make your maong last forever,” it is noted that an ideal wash is “anywhere between after five wears to six months worth of wear.”

If a so-called “bad habit” is one way to help mother nature, then my god, allow us to do our part.
