Week-long ‘ILOVEYOU Virus’ art exhibition kicks off in Escolta today

Escolta is off to a great start this weekend.

On Feb 11, no less than the New York Times published a “Where to go in Manila” guide where it described Calle Escolta as “once the Philippines’ version of Fifth Avenue.” How chika is that!

Today, it kicks off a week-long multi-venue exhibition called Escape 2016: ILOVEYOU VIRUS The Art Exhibit.

For those not old enough to remember, there was a rumor around the world in 1999 that all computers would go bonkers once the calendar turned year 2000.

Alongside that was the ILOVEYOU Internet virus, which reached 45 million users in just one day.

The online disease spread rapidly because people found it hard not to click on the eye-catching title.

This art exhibition wants to do the same with sculpture, visual art, photography, fashion and music.

Best way to spread creativity is to infect the people, immersing them in the works of 20 artists, Filipino and foreign, right?

Then there’s the zentai walk which lets guests experience their inner artist. Lectures and artists’ talk will make things more understandable to the newbies. The audience gets to react and respond in an open call that will be stored on videos.

And like every other viral target, some folks will be won over with this bi-annual exhibition.

Others more resistant might need a second infusion.

Which one will you be? Enter the “incubation” hall in Sta Cruz and find out!

ESCAPE 2016:  ILOVEYOU VIRUS The Art Exhibit runs from Feb 13-21 at First United Building, Calle Escolta, Sta Cruz, Manila; www.98-B.org/escape2016.
