The Erik Matti-helmed period horror thriller, Seklusyon (Seclusion) will have its world premiere at the inaugural Macao International Film Festival on Sun, Dec 11, at the Macao Cultural Center.
“Set in 1947, Seklusyon is about four young men’s last few days on silent retreat before their ordination for priesthood. The film is the lone Philippine entry in the festival’s non-competition Hidden Dragons section for films that represent the latest trends in contemporary Asian genre cinema,” reports Edwin P. Sallan on InterAksyon.com.
The cast is a mix of newcomers and seasoned actors include Ronnie Alonte, Dominic Roque, John Vic de Guzman, and JR Versales as the four deacons. Child actress Rhed Bustamante, Phoebe Walker, Neil Ryan Sese, Lou Veloso, Elora Españo, Jerry O’ Hara, and Teroy Guzman complete the cast.
The report noted: “With its selection in Macao, Matti’s film becomes the third official entry of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival to be part of an international film festival.”
It went on to recall: “In October, Babyruth Villarama-Gutierrez’s documentary, Sunday Beauty Queen, had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. Last month, Jun Robles Lana’s transgender comedy drama Die Beautiful won the Audience Choice Award and Best Actor for lead star Paolo Ballesteros at the Tokyo International Film Festival.”
