Erik Matti’s suspenseful crime drama Honor Thy Father will be making its world premiere at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival, which will run from Sep 10-20.

The trailer was officially released on TIFF Trailer’s YouTube page.

Honoy Thy Father is about a couple who discovers that the investment scheme they are running is actually a scam.

John Lloyd Cruz, who had to shave his head for the role, plays Edgar, a man who will return to his dark roots to save his family.

Meryll Soriano, meanwhile, plays Edgar’s wife Kaye, who is having a hard time dealing with being treated as a pariah as they dive into financial ruin.

Tirso Cruz III is also in the film as a leader of a religious group that Edgar and Kaye are part of.

Honor Thy Father is among 60 other films added in TIFF’s programming.

TIFF has been bringing the power of film to life each September, since 1976.

In the meantime, here are some behind-the-scenes look at the shooting of Honor Thy Father, courtesy of Meryl and Direk Erik Matti’s Instagram accounts.
