This is what’s called a major throwback.
Former Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia announced yesterday that the band is releasing a digitally remastered version of its debut album Electromagneticpop! on Friday, just in time for its 25th anniversary.
There won’t be any physical copies of the album available but it will be on Spotify and other digital platforms. Remastered by engineer Bernie Grundman, the album includes hits that featured prominently in the lives of Filipino Gen Xers and older millennials such as Toyang, Pare Ko, and Ligaya.
Buendia made the announcement by posting an updated version of the album’s cover on his Instagram account with the caption: “Ultraelectromagneticpop! – the classic debut album by The Eraserheads celebrates its 25th year with a remastered edition by Bernie Grundman, legendary audio engineer. Relive the memories of this groundbreaking Filipino music milestone.”
The Eraserheads came into prominence in the early 1990s. Aside from Buendia, the band was composed of Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro.
They’re so iconic that some critics have even likened them to The Beatles or the “Filipino Fab Four.”
The band broke-up in 2002 due to internal conflict but reunited for a 2008 concert. However, the performance was cut short when Buendia had a heart attack. The band staged another concert in 2009 and embarked on a world in 2012.
The release of the remastered album comes months after the staging of the musical Ang Huling El Bimbo which featured the band’s songs. However, the band was not involved in any way in the production of the musical.
Naturally, the band’s fans were delighted with Buendia’s announcement. Someone said they were her “childhood heroes.”

Another said she was “crying” with the announcement.

@iammherz_c suggested: “You should also have a concert for the 25th anniversary celebration.”

@gilbrianfuentes asked if the remastered album will also be released on a CD.
