‘Ekstra’ and other winners at the 2015 New York Festivals

The Philippines did good at the 2015 New York Festivals, bringing home one gold medal and five bronze medals.
 
Front Row, GMA 7’s documentary show, won the Gold World Medal in the Best Public Affairs Program category for its features on the ice bucket challenge and the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
 
Winning bronze medals were the indie movie Ekstra starring Vilma Santos (Best feature Film category), the “Burak at Pangarap” episode of GMA 7’s Reporter’s Notebook (Community Portraits category), the “Karapatan ng Bata” episode of the GMA News TV show Motorcycle Diaries (Human Concerns category), the “May Pag-asa” station ID of GMA News TV (Station/Image Promotion category), and the Yolanda (Haiyan) documentary of ABS-CBN (Cinematography category).
 
Other shows and episodes also got Finalist certificates such as TV5’s “Kaya” (Human Concerns category), Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Katipunan, Reel Time, GMA News TV’s “Walang Rape sa Bontok” episode, the “Wrath of Haiyan” episode of Umagang Kay Ganda (Best Coverage of Breaking News category), ABS-CBN’s “Compassion and Empathy for our Fellow Man (Television – Promotion/Open & Ids category), and the “Spratlys: Mga Isla ng Kalayaan” feature (National/International Affairs category).
