Despite reported cases of signal disruptions and the Pastillas Girl saga of its competition, Eat Bulaga! managed to set a host of records in its wake.
Not only did its Twitter hashtag, #AlDubMostAwaitedDate break records with 12 million mentions in 24 hours, AlDub’s Most Awaited Date propelled Eat Bulaga! to a massive 43.1% rating in Mega Manila. That’s according to data supplier AGB Nielsen, which was published by pep.ph.
While 43% is most definitely high, the real significance lies in the fact that Eat Bulaga! just set a new bar for Philippine TV. It now holds the highest TV rating for any show this year, beating its own record of 39.5% for the Sep 5 episode. That was AlDub’s first meeting, BTW.
Before you consider downplaying that number and saying it’s just Mega Manila, AGB Nielsen’s National Urban Philippines has also pegged Eat Bulaga! with a 40% rating on a national scale. It’s Showtime! meanwhile is only at a measly13%.
Other organizations have pretty much the same numbers: Kantar Media data from Total Philippines, also put Eat Bulaga higher than It’s Showtime for the same time period. On Sep 19, Eat Bulaga! got 29.6% nationwide, while It’s Showtime managed some 17.9%.
ABS-CBN, however, refused to be left in the dust. The Kapamilya network released national ratings for Sep. 16, 17, and 18 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), and said Showtime is “maintaining a narrow gap” vs. Dabarkads.
The article also did not forget to bring the AlDub fever down a notch, as it mentioned that on Sep 19, the “most watched program in the country” was Maalaala Mo Kaya with 32.2%. Catfight!
Well, you get it where you can.
