Duterte just made it as Stephen Colbert punchline

If this keeps up, President Rodrigo Duterte may become a staple topic in US late night talk shows.

Duterte was one of the topics of on the Tue, Sep 6, episode The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His highly publicized controversy with US President Barack Obama was the punchline.

Colbert began his show’s opening monologue by addressing the issues surrounding Obama over the weekend, when the US President did not get a red carpet welcome when he arrived in China for the G20 economic summit.

“That’s right. The Chinese made use the foldaway, the Jennifer convertible of stairs,” he said.

But the lack of red carpet welcome wasn’t the only thing that insulted Obama, Colbert added.

“He was supposed to meet today with Rodrigo Duterte, the president of the Philippines. Hopefully to get to the bottom of why Philippines is spelled with a PH but Filipino is spelled with an F. That is PH-ed up in my opinion,” Colbert joked.

Addressing reports about Duterte’s profanity-laced tirade against Obama, he added, “Look, I don’t know how they do things in the Philippines, but over here we do not attack the woman who gave birth to the President, okay? We attack where she gave birth.”

As jokes go though, this one’s pretty tame. Remember when HBO late show host John Oliver called Duterte a f***king asshole last May?
