After grappling with sewage woes, overcrowding, and haphazard development, and then being closed for six months for rehabilitation, Boracay Island is only a few days away from opening its doors to tourists again.

Once the island reopens third week of October after phase 1 of its rehabilitation, officials vowed to implement new rules to preserve what they promised to be a more pristine island.

The Department of Tourism and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources have new regulations in place to ensure the island doesn’t go beyond its recommended capacity and make sure the six-month rehabilitation won’t go to waste. New rules from entry to activities to water supply have been announced.
