Triangle of Sadness star Dolly de Leon fell short of taking home the Best Supporting Actress award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
Angela Bassett, who starred in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, won the recognition.
De Leon, the first Filipino to be nominated for the Golden Globes, was widely acclaimed for her performance as Abigail, a yacht toilet cleaner who (spoiler alert!) rises to power among a group of privileged passengers who become stranded on an island.
The film, directed by Ruben Östlund, premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation and won the Palme d’Or. De Leon’s performance sparked rumors in the awards circuit that she would be up for top nominations such as the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
De Leon took home a Best Supporting Performer win from the 48th Los Angeles Film Critics Awards in December. She is also up for the top brass at the 43rd annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, and has been longlisted for the BAFTAs.
