After being the first Filipino nominated for a Golden Globe for her sensational turn as yacht toilet cleaner Abigail in Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness, actress Dolly de Leon continues to make waves in the awards circuit after being included in the 2023 British Academy Film Awards’ (BAFTA) longlist for Best Supporting Actress.
De Leon joins a list of 10 actresses up for nominations, including stars such as Angela Bassett in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Emma Thompson in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.
Other actresses featured in the longlist include:
- Hong Chau in The Whale
- Kerry Condon in The Banshees of Inisherin
- Lashana Lynch in The Woman King
- Janelle Monáe in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
- Carey Mulligan in She Said
- Aimee Lou Wood in Living
Up to 260 performances were submitted for consideration in this year’s category.
The six shortlisted nominees will be announced on Jan. 19, while the ceremony will take place on Feb. 19.
De Leon is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the 43rd annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.
De Leon earned international raves for her performance in the Cannes Palme d’Or-winning film as a cleaning lady (spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen the film yet!) whose survival skills transform her into the leader of a group of privileged passengers when they get stranded on an island.
