Dishes get a tropical twist at Outback’s ‘The Great Aussie Eats’

Old favorites from the Land Down Under get a tropical twist with ‘The Great Aussie Eats,’ Outback’s special offerings for the holidays.

With fresh and colorful ingredients, the dishes are far from typical holiday offerings that are designed for cold winters. But hey, a white Christmas isn’t a thing here in the Philippines, after all.

The main attraction is a chili-marinated ribeye steak ( PHP1,599) served with Mexican corn on the cob, tortilla shoestring strips, and grilled tomato. The steak is seasoned, chargrilled and topped with avocado pico de gallo.

The avocado salsa is a simple addition, but it’s very refreshing. Also, it’s a pretty healthy option meant to keep diners full for a long time —and healthy is always a good thing.

If steak is not your thing, the hearts of gold cod (PHP449) is a good choice too. The colorful sauce has an intereting texture from the baby artichokes, sundried tomatoes and cream. The flavors are tied together by light lemon butter.

The unexpected star is the appetizer: A nice and colorful tomato and mozarella bruschetta (PHP349). It sounds like a typical combination, but the flavors are very balanced.

The tomato and slice of cheese give the right combination of sour, sweet and salty. It’s perfect with a glass of wine.

For a nice and sweet ending, there’s the tropical fruit cheesecake (PHP269). It’s your typical slice of New York cheesecake with a citrus kick from fruits and whipped cream.

If you’re going to Outback, you might as well order the Typhoon Bloom (PHP399) . It’s an old favorite that has remained a popular pick among diners over the yers. It might look humongous, but trust us, you’ll have no problems polishing off a plate.
