Dear BIR, you can’t tax the Miss Universe crown. It ain’t Pia’s

Kim Henares can tax Pia Wurtzbach for all her pageant winnings all she wants, but the 26-year-old beauty queen clarified that the Bureau of Internal Revenue cannot tax her for the crown, reportedly worth USD$300,000 (about PHP14,000,000).

While she may have won it, Wurtzbach told reporters the crown is not hers. It is the property of the Miss Universe Organization which it intends to use until 2024.

First debuted in 2014, the diamond-encrusted crown will be passed on to winners of the pageant. Wurzbach is only the second Miss Universe Queen to wear it, following Colombian beauty queen Paulina Vega who was hailed Miss Universe in the 2014 edition of the pageant.

But no worries, Wurtzbach said. She plans on paying her taxes, as she’s always done. “I pay my taxes when I was with ABS-CBN… as an actress; when I was with Binibini, so I’ll continue on doing that as long as I’m earning money here, like everybody else,” she said.
