Nope, we’re not kidding, this artwork really exists.

Entitled “Salubong,” the oil on canvas painting by artist Dante Hipolito shows Pope Francis in a Philippine countryside, surrounded by nature’s bounty, flanked by a carabao and showbiz personalities like Vilma Santos, Kris Aquino, Marian Rivera and one politician, Sen Grace Poe, who also happens to be the daughter of showbiz icons.

While we can’t deny that the current leader of the Catholic Church is everybody’s Pope — entertainers, too, have souls — we find the showbiz-ification of everything in this country, from politics and national events to, now, art and religion, quite hard to swallow.

There’s no escaping showbiz, people.
