Best-selling author Kevin Kwan is currently in Manila to promote “Rich People Problems,” the latest addition to his “Crazy Rich Asians” trilogy.

In an interview on ANC’s “Headstart” on Friday, Kwan said he always makes an effort to show “the human condition in life” in his books.

Aside from “Rich People Problems,” his two other works include “Crazy Rich Asians” and “China Rich Girlfriend.”

“A lot of times, they (characters) are inspired by real people I know,” he said.

“I think no one can have it all. And I think that’s important to show in my book,” he added. “No matter how much money you have, how much power you have or connections, we’re all struggling in different ways.”

Kwan said it was his intention to feature characters from different parts of Asia, including the Philippines.

“The books are called ‘Crazy Rich Asians.’ Philippines is part of Asia. So I wanted to talk about the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, about all the different cultures that the rich inhabit throughout Asia,” he said.

He went on to admit that he has a “very soft spot” for the Philippines.

“I’ve had such great times here in my life. People here are so great. And I really wanted to show people these dynamic, powerful, glamorous, feisty Filipino characters,” he said.
