Coming soon: GMA to remake fantasy TV series ‘Mulawin’

Months after premiering its remake of the fantasy series Encantadia, it looks like GMA is set to revive another popular 2000s TV show — Mulawin.

Netizens are abuzz after Popoy Caritativo, the manager of GMA actor Dennis Trillo, posted a photo of what seems like a meeting of his talent with GMA executives, including the network’s AVP for Drama, Cheryl Ching-Sy.

The caption for the photo reads: “Meeting para sa pinaka bagong primetime show! #Mulawin2017 #MulingPaglipad”

(“Meeting for the newest primetime show!”)

Yup, the hashtag pretty much confirms it.

What’s more, GMA Network’s official Instagram account reposted the photo, with the caption: “GMA Entertainment TV gears up for #Mulawin2017!”

As you may remember, Mulawin is a fantasy-themed soap opera (the show is about a race of winged human beings) that aired from August 2004 to March 2005 starring Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin.

It is considered as Angel’s breakthrough role and it made Richard into the one of network’s major stars during the 2000s.

Dennis was also part of the 2004 Mulawin as the show’s token third wheel who later turned into an antagonist.

Based on the Instagram post, it’s not clear if the 2017 Mulawin will be a remake or a sequel. Fans are also asking if Dennis will be playing the show’s lead this time around.

Before GMA retooled Encantadia earlier this year, the network already aired a remake of Villa Quintana, a popular 1990s afternoon soap opera, in 2014.

It also did a second remake of popular 1990s Mexican soap Marimar last year.
