Cherie Gil sending a cease and desist letter to Viva and Newport Performing Arts Theater, producers of the musical ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’, is almost like her uttering those lines from ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’ that she made famous.

According to pep.ph, Cherie wants Viva and Resorts World Management to stop the play from using the “trying hard second rate copycat’ line because the intellectual property rights supposedly belongs to her.

In the play, it is theater actress Cris Villonco who will be uttering the famous line.

Gil sent the letter on Friday, Jun 19, through her counsel Atty. Lorna Kapunan.

It was the movie director, Emmanuel Borlaza, who gave the play his approval to use the line. According to Borlaza, the famous line came from him.

“Kahit ilibing nila ako bukas nang buhay, ‘yon ang katotohanan,’ Borlaza was quoted as saying.

Unfortunately, the award-winning scriptwriter Orlando Nadres, who wrote the screenplay for the 1985 movie, has already passed away.

According to pep.ph, should Gil decide to push through with a lawsuit, Borlaza is ready to testify for Viva Films.
